Public Programs Coordinator
The Public Programs Coordinator is part of the program team responsible for the delivery and development of high quality, innovative and interactive programs and demonstrations for school groups, workshop attendees, members, and the general public. The Public Programs Coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of operational procedures for field trip programs, floor demonstrations, and special events. The Coordinator further is responsible for the supervision and development of programs staff including participating in training and evaluation.
Major Job Responsibilities:
* Deliver interactive educational programs in Big Lab workshops and large scale floor programs of the California Science Center for reserved groups, members, and the general public
* Establish and coordinate logistics and procedures for field trip programs, demonstrations, home school programs, and some special event programs
* Oversee research and develop of programs and materials related to a wide assortment of science concepts, including those topics covered in existing and future permanent and temporary exhibits of the Science Center
* Supervise and monitor staff and volunteers developing and delivering programs to Science Center visitors and other program participants
* Prototype new educational programs and revise as necessary under the direction of and in cooperation with the Manager of Public Programs
* Serve as Education lead for the Science Center Web Team
* Work with Guest Services to manage OMNI database for education programs
* Coordinate aspects of the evaluation of programs and materials being implemented
* Assist Manager of Public Programs with documentation of all Field Trip programs and demonstrations
* Present programs and represent the Amgen Center for Science Learning at special events and receptions
* Present aspects of, and participate in, the training program for Educators, Volunteers and other California Science Center staff
* Coordinate the on-going evaluation of program staff
* Attend regular programs staff meetings to ensure timely communication of essential information
* Initiate purchases for programs supplies as needed and assist the Manager of Public Programs in the tracking and management of associated budgets
* Track and report program data and assist in the compilation of the annual report
* Participate in long-range strategic planning for the Amgen Center for Science Learning programs
* Represent the Amgen Center for Science Learning on new initiatives and capital projects as assigned
* Collaborate with other Science Center staff
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* College degree in science, education or related field
* Strong background in science
* Strong computer skills with experience in database management and web management
* One to two years supervisory and administrative experience
* Experience working in a museum or similar informal education institution
* Experience in the development and implementation of informal education programs
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Effective interpersonal skills
* Excellent customer service skills and team player
* Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
Salary: $34,000 - $35,000 annually with excellent benefits
