Natural History Museum of LA County - Volunteer Coordinator

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Volunteer Coordinator to help develop a world class volunteer program for the 21st century. Reporting to the Manager, Volunteer Programs the Volunteer Coordinator has an integral role on the team that will be shaping new goals, approaches, policies, and programs for our volunteer program. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a new volunteer recruitment program with the widest possible reach, providing volunteer orientation and sections of volunteer training, serving, along with our Manager, as a nexus of information and access to museum resources for our volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit and place volunteers in appropriate positions, provide volunteer orientation and other training as assigned and will supervise volunteers working in the public areas of the museum. The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for day-to-day provision of information for volunteers using all media appropriate to the range of volunteers at the museum (from students to retirees, with a range of educational and cultural backgrounds).

Key Responsibilities for this position include:
•Recruits a diverse volunteer workforce responsive to the needs of the Museum and our visitors, establishing and developing appropriate institutional practices and relationships for effective volunteer recruitment with the widest possible reach.
•Processes volunteer applications and other paperwork and maintains volunteer files.
•Provides volunteer orientation and other training related to volunteer roles as assigned.
•Supervises volunteers on assigned days, for assigned events, activities and programs.
•Actively maintains and updates the information on the volunteer section of the NHM website.
•Serves, together with museum staff and selected volunteers, on the leadership team responsible for designing and developing the NHM’s expanded volunteer program.
•Collaborates with museum staff working with volunteers.
•Assists in developing and implementing volunteer recognition and retention program, including providing volunteers with unique experiences, continuing education and professional development.
Salary is commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time, regular, exempt position.
