POSITION: Education Coordinator
REGULAR Part-time NON-EXEMPT $13/hr
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
Overview
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Education Coordinator executes educational programs and resources to accompany exhibitions at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CAF). The Education Coordinator serves as a liaison between CAF and the community by receiving gallery visitors, preparing for tours and educational activities. This person represents CAF at meetings, civic functions, local and regional business organizations, professional associations and related groups.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Oversee CAF's existing educational initiatives: Forum Lounge, Forum Kids, smART Talks, smART Salons, CAF as Classroom, Andrea Lang Fund, and the Education Resource Center, working with the Executive Director to plan any additional components to accompany exhibitions.
-Collaborate with community organizations, local public and private schools, professional education groups and the local arts community to expand the audiences, quality and scope of CAF educational initiatives.
-Supervise the scheduling and organization of gallery tours.
-Supervise all operations, opening and closing of the space, supervise the condition of the artwork and the appearance of the gallery space, greet visitors and act as an educational liaison between the public and CAF.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Possession of a BA in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-At least one year experience in museum education.
-Excellent writing, administrative, organizational and communication skills.
-Must have working knowledge of Word and Excel. Knowledge of MAC OS X helpful.
-Ability to interact effectively with diverse staff, board members, supporters, community, and the general public, in a courteous and professional manner, whether in person, on the telephone, or in writing.
-Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
-Ability to prioritize and organize multiple activities, as well as supervise the activities of contributing members around a common project.
-Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
