California Science Center: Educator
The Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality, interactive science education programs to school groups and the general public visiting the California Science Center. The Educator delivers Science Live! Programs and large-scale demonstrations in the exhibit galleries and education facilities. The Educator assists with setting up materials and equipment.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- College background in science, education, theater or related field preferred
- Experience in teaching or working in a museum, informal educational or classroom setting
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences
- Excellent customer service skills and team player
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays and evenings
- English and Spanish bilingual is a plus but not necessary.
Qualifications:
- Presents educational programs for large groups in the Big Lab, exhibit galleries or education facilities
- Tracks guest attendance numbers and surveys for all programming
- Presents interactive demonstrations at other programs such as Summer Camps and other special events
- Tracks the use of consumable supplies and report any required materials or equipment maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor
- Assists with training new staff and volunteers with education programs
Salary: $11.25 per hour
